As you may or may not know, Toronto hosts one of the largest Wakeboarding events in the world each year, hosted by SBC Media. Thank god that SBC came to their senses and increased the amount of skateboard exposure at the event, adding a mini ramp and a bigger park this year. Not to mention appearances from several Element pros like Chad Muska, Magnus Hanson, and Levi Brown… The competition was some of the better comp skating I’ve seen in a long time, and it’s no surprise that Morgan Smith took first place. Otherwise, the event was enjoyable, the beer was crappy and expensive, but as long as you were creative, you could still manage to get by (security doesn’t frisk you, they just check bags!!!).

The Muska even DJ’d at Lee’s Palace on the Saturday night, which was a perfect venue for the wastebaggery that ensued… Thanks for everyone that came out and made it fun, I would have probably had to hang out with wakeboarders otherwise… Hope to see everyone again next year.
The newest release from Blue Tile Lounge “Sac Le Bleu” featuring skaters from all over the Toronto and surrounding area premiered at Al Gonquins in Newmarket last week, and at the El Mocambo in Toronto this week. Once again, Rob and Julie showed us all that they know what it takes to make a great video. It was packed with great skating, amazing editing, and lots to laugh at. Thanks to BTL and crew for the great video and parties, and we look forward to more videos from them in the future. “Sac Le Bleu” will be available in our online shop within the next couple of weeks, and in the meantime, you can check out the promo and teaser for the video here and the photos of the premier:

There was also a premier on December 21st, 2006 for the new video from Sebastian Lymann called “Aureate” which also featured a primarily Toronto based group of skaters. Common Ground riders Warren Ounjian, Nathan Brown, Pat O’Connor, and Ben Davis all had footage. Sebastian (aka Sebass) who gained recognition from his work in the Environment video went on his own for this video and didn’t let anyone down. The premier was held at the Bloor St. Cinema in Toronto, and brought in a crowd of nearly 500 from all across Ontario. “Aureate” will be available in the Common Ground online shop early in the new year… If you’d like to see the trailer, check the link here and watch for the premier coverage in the next issue of Worked Magazine
